Capacity 50 (40 seated)
Situated on Brunswick street, just
off of London Road and Leith Walk this venue is located outside the area usually
associated with the Fringe, but is a 5 minutes walk from the Jongleurs at the Omni
complex, and around 10 minutes walk from the Stand Comedy Club, Princes Street and Waverly
station. This venue
attracted high audiences in 2005 due to the Free nature of the shows, the number of shows,
and the publicity from the Fringe and through local people.
Both rooms at this venue are suited,
and aimed at stand-up comedy performance, however it is possible for small-scale theatre
or drama in the afternoon slots, or children's shows in the morning - but bear in mind the
limitations of the technical set-up and the amount of storage areas.
The club is well known locally, and
developed a good local following for our free shows at the venue in 2004 and 2005, with an
average evening show attendance of 50, and 20-50 at lunchtime and in the evening.

A small and cosy room that was well liked by performers in 2005 as a cosy and
intimate space for shows.
Stage - Performed on a small raised stage (about 3
inches) , the stage area is roughly 8ft (wide) x 4ft (deep). There is a small area of wing
space that doubles as the sound booth.
Lighting & Sound -
Basic lights are installed to flood the stage as per a normal stand-up comedy performance.
Additional lighting is possible if supplied by groups. An 8 channel mixer is
available in a small sound booth next to the stage, with amplifier and speakers. 2 CD
players are provided, along with 2 microphones and mic stands. Any other equipment
required must be brought by the groups that require it, arranged with us in advance, and
meet our safety requirements.
Technician - A technician will
not be provided to operate equipment, that will be the responsibility of each group using
the venue.
Seating - 40 seats
cabaret style with some small tables. There is also room for up to 10 people
standing at the back of the room.
Storage - There is storage
space in the cellar by arrangement with the venue management.
Bar - There is no bar open in
the room, a bar operates on the ground floor and 1st floors, and there is also
a large beer garden and open courtyard area.
Hire & Collection
As with all our rooms, the use of
this room is FREE, however you cannot charge for your shows, but instead take a collection
at the end - Collections at the end of the show can raise on average £1-£1.20 per person
if carried out effectively. We have found the best way to collect money is to explain teh
concept of the Free shows at the end of the performance, and to ask everyone politely on
leaving the venue to contribute. It is also more effective if you have somebody collecting
for the performers, rather than the performers themselves.
Advertising
All shows at Lindsay's must be
listed in the Fringe Programme. Last year the cost of this was around £240, and has to be
submitted by mid-April at the latest.
We will be marketing the Free Fringe
across all of our venues, with the local press, other organisations and the Fringe Office.
Acts will have display space for
posters, flyers and publicity for their shows at all of our venues - along with
three other Edinburgh venues owed by the owners of the Canons Gait. No publicity for other
venues Fringe shows will be advertised in these locations.
Lindsay's will have space
outside the venue, on Brunswick Street, where advertising for each of the shows can be
placed, along with general venue posters. All shows will be advertised on our internet
sites, with full show listings, photos and anything else required FREE OF CHARGE.
The Free Fringe will be producing
Poster and a brochure for the venues. All shows will be listed on these for free.
Other Costs
All shows at our venues MUST be
listed in the Fringe Programme - without this it is nearly impossible to publicise your
show anyway, and there is a fee for this from the Fringe office. Dont forget your
accommodation costs which can be high, and to gain an audience you will also need your own
promotional material and press release, etc.
