Having learnt that
dating is a game of chance, Phil Buckley aims to rig the game but cheating. Not in the
normal way, but by having a go at all the different ways that you can meet someone in the
hope that the laws of averages mean at least one person finds him mildly amusing. This
show is the story of how he goes from one stupid situation to another and what went wrong.
Bringing his first solo show to Edinburgh, Manchester's
favourite spoonerism's has been winning over audiences up and down Britain with his laid
back style, natural likeable charm and stylish delivery. Over the last few years he has
performed in comedy clubs, bars, restaurants, theatres, on TV and even live on radio.
Using a combination of stories, one-liners and the odd prop based joke, Phil is guaranteed
to have something to win over any audience. In 2005 Phil got through to The Frog &
Bucket's Beat The Frog World Series final, which is an annual version of their weekly Beat
The Frog competition, which he won on his first attempt just over two years ago. With
television appearances in Clocking Off, A & E, Hollyoaks, Bob & Rose, Stand Up
Jenny, The Mailcoach Mice - The Woodland Soap (puppeteer) and several credits for
performing his stand up act, he was also a team captain on The Basement on Channel M.
Phil's radio work has included appearing on Shock FM, CCR FM, 96.2 The Revolution's
'Sunday Slice' and on both Air FM's 80s quiz Somebody's At The Door and their breakfast
show. He has also made cameo appearances on stage with comedy sketch team 'Slaughter House
Live' and in the hit Korean martial arts comedy 'Junp'. Phil has also performed as part of
Reginald D Hunter's 'Pride & Prejudice & Niggas' tour and was one of the 127
comedians to perform at the record breaking Stand Up 150 and Stand Up Be Counted.
"A genuine wit and passion
He has a natural
likeable charm to him and a stylish delivery" Chortle
"Phil Buckley's matey patter won the audience over
immediately and it's not hard to see why. He controlled the room, had everyone on his side
with his tales of vodka-fuelled woe and dealt with anyone stupid enough to heckle him
brilliantly. His tale of a stag do in Russia brought the house down" BBC Manchester
"Main support act Phil Buckley proved a hit with the audience who
quickly warmed to anecdotes about drinking with students, working in Salford and
attracting the amorous intentions of your brother-in-law. A confident, strong communicator
with sharp observations and an easy style" Nightlife and 9/2 Cumberland News
"Phil Buckley was the final act to take the stage before
the interval, 'take' being the operative word, which was impressive to say the least. It
is obvious that Phil is a good performer, his set is polished and well delivered. I feel
he his best suited to taking a run of the mill topic and twisting it; his material about a
stag night in Russia is priceless, the audience lapped it up, and the laughs came thick
and fast" Manchestercomedy.com
