Nestling in the heart of the Canongate, towards the bottom end of Edinburgh's Royal Mile, the Canon's Gait is a traditional and friendly bar serving lunches, real ale and an extensive selection of Malt Whiskies. The Canon's Gait is only a 5 minute walk in a straight line from the Fringe Office, 5 minutes from the Pleasance and 10 minutes from The Gilded Balloon and Underbelly venues.

A Fringe Venue for many years, this is the third year The Canon's Gait has been part of the Free Fringe. The shows are held in the intimate and atmospheric basement bar, with the ground floor Lounge bar open throughout the day for a relaxing drink, and a bite to eat.

During the year this popular bar hosts live music and band in the cellar bar, and during the Fringe in 2005 the cellar bar will host a selection of free stand-up and comedy shows every afternoon and evening.

"An inventive interior includes an intricate wall mural and generously upholstered tartan benches, but it’s not tourist bait. The smart decor attracts the young and beautiful, while natives don’t feel ousted.   As well as the standard pub grub the menu includes more off-the-wall concoctions such as tiger prawns with tagliatelle in cream and dill sauce." - The Scotsman
