Bill Bruce
William Bruce was born and raised in Glasgow, and has been based in London for the last four
years. He has worked as a professional comedian on the UK stand up circuit for three years. He is
a political satirist, social
commentator and, by his own admission, an international troublemaker.
He has taken two successful one-man shows to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe - "Dumbing
Up" in 2004 and "Political Hot Potato" in 2005.
He has appeared on Channel 5, BBC and ITV as a stand-up comedian and voiceover artiste, and was
also a regular guest on BBC Radio Scotland's Fred Macaulay Show. He also writes a regular
humourous column for a best-selling music magazine. He was a regular contributor to acclaimed UK
satire website The Brain's Trust.
He was semi-finalist in the Metro Life New Act Competition in 2003 and was a finalist in the
Laughing Horse New Act of the Year Competition in 2004 and the Ribbed New Act Competition, also in
2004.
His controversial 2004 show "Dumbing Up" caused consternation for the Church of
Scotland, when they discovered it was deliberately being performed within a church, while being
openly critical of many aspects of organised religion.
The follow-up show "Political Hot Potato" promises to be no less
controversial as Bruce turns his caustic gaze on the events of 2005 and
Fortress Britain. |
